Lesson 4: Sorting Data (Report Builder 1.0)

Add sorting to the data in the table to sort data within each group. The sort order is used to list the number of sales for each customer by territory. Within each group, each field can be sorted in ascending or descending order.

To sort data within groups

  1. On the Report menu, click Sort and Group.

    Alternatively, you can click the Sort and Group button on the Report toolbar.

  2. In the Select Group list, select Territory.

  3. In the Sort by list, select Territory.

  4. Verify that Ascending is selected.

  5. In the Select Group list, select Customer.

  6. In the Sort by list, select Customer Name.

  7. In the Then by list, select #Sales Orders.

  8. Select Descending.

    When the report is run, the data in the #Sales Orders field will be displayed from highest to lowest within each group.

  9. Click OK.

You have successfully sorted the data within the Territory and Customer groups. Next, you will add and format text within the title text box and format text within the report layout. See Lesson 5: Formatting the Data (Report Builder 1.0).
