Using the Portfolio Analyzer OLAP Extensions

OLAP extensions can add significant capabilities to Portfolio Analyzer in Microsoft® Office Project 2003. The Portfolio Analyzer OLAP Extensions Solution Starter provides three independent samples of OLAP extensions.

Note  For a discussion of what you would need to do to install multiple OLAP extensions, see Implementations. The extensions are separate in this solution starter.

The solution starter sample for adding a pay period dimension shows how to manually add the dimension to a cube using SQL Server Analysis Manager. Since you add the dimension to the default cubes MSP_ASSN_FACT and MSP_RES_AVAIL_FACT that are within the virtual cube MSP_PORTFOLIO_MANAGER, that dimension will be available in the Chart Field List in Portfolio Analyzer when you want to modify a view to include your new dimension.

In the solution starter sample OLAP extension for task issues and risks, you create the new cubes MSP_RISKS and MSP_ISSUES. Similarly, in the sample for task earned value you create the new cube MSP_TASK_EARNED_VALUE. Although all of these cubes are within the cube database for Portfolio Analyzer, you need to create views that use the new cubes and design the views to help analyze the specific data.

The following topics describe how to create and use the custom views. To see data in the views, you need to first enter the relevant information in Project Professional or Project Web Access, publish the projects to the Web, and then build the cube.
