Troubleshooting OLAP Cube Generation

There are three common issues with OLAP cube generation.

  • Ensure that the service packs you're using for both SQL Server™ and SQL Server Analysis Server are the same versions. For Microsoft® Office Project Server 2003, you should use the SQL Server and Analysis Server service packs 3a or later.

Note  There are separate service packs for SQL Server and Analysis Server; they must be the same version, and they must be installed separately. The download file SQL2KSP3.exe installs the SQL Server database service pack, and the file SQL2KASP3.exe installs the Analysis Server service pack.

For information and links to the SQL Server service packs, see the SQL Server Support Center.

  • Ensure that you migrate the OLAP repository to SQL Server. When Analysis Server is first installed, the OLAP repository is stored in a Jet (Microsoft Office Access .mdb file) database. The Project Server 2003 Installation Guide explains how to set up Analysis Server for Project Server.

Note  1033 is the locale ID (LCID) for U.S. English; the folder for localized versions is different. For example, the LCID for Japanese is 1041.

  • Ensure that the account you're running to build OLAP cube components in Project Server is a member of the OLAP Administrators group. This is necessary because the user account that grants permissions to build the cube must be an OLAP administrator. To run the cube generation processes on the OLAP Analysis Server, you need to be an OLAP administrator.
