templateID Element [Office 2003 SDK Documentation]

Specifies a string that represents a unique identifier for files where the value of the **type**element is "template". This identifier must match the value of the Solution Template ID custom property, which you define inside the template by using the Properties dialog box from within the template's host application. This also allows the template to be updated in the installed location on the user's computer and not only in the default folder for templates that are part of an XML expansion pack, if these are different.

Note  If the values of the templateID element and the Solution Template ID custom property do not match exactly, templates included with XML expansion packs are downloaded only to the default installation location, which is <Drive>\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Application Data\microsoft\Schemas\. However, the template will not be updated in the location where the user has installed the template, if these are different.

Important  In Word, when you open a template that has an XML expansion pack attached, Word updates the files included with the XML expansion pack according to the templateID element. This doesn't work in Excel.
