Summary

The Interviewer Wizards are custom Project Guides that walk users through a series of questions, and based on their responses, generates an appropriately scheduled project plan which is a stripped-down version of the master plan. There are two wizards; one for a Product Launch, and the other for a Microsoft® BizTalk Server Deployment. For the user's convenience, after completing an interview, the responses are stored in the master plan and can be edited or deleted at any time.

Installation

  1. Extract files to C:\CustomPG\ where two folders will be created (one for the Product Launch wizard, and the other for the BizTalk Deployment wizard). This is important because the path is coded into the script files, as well as the XML schemas used throughout the wizards.
  1. Once the files are copied, open the Microsoft Project file in either folder to begin the interviewer wizard.

The master project's custom project guide uses the following files for the Product Launch Interviewer Wizard:

  • C:\CustomPG\Interviewer\Product Launch\prodlaunch_mainpage.htm
  • C:\CustomPG\Interviewer\Product Launch\prodlaunch_gbui.xml

The master project's custom project guide uses the following files for the BizTalk Server Deployment Interviewer Wizard:

  • C:\CustomPG\Interviewer\BizTalk Deployment\btsdeploym_mainpage.htm
  • C:\CustomPG\Interviewer\BizTalk Deployment\btsdeploym_gbui.xml
Creating a Project Using the Product Launch Interview Wizard

The following procedures walk you through the steps of the Interviewer Wizard custom Project Guides.

To create a new project using the Product Launch Interview Wizard:
  1. Click New Interview in the main sidepane to start a new interview.
  1. Give your interview a name and click Start the Interview.
  1. In steps four and five of the wizard, you can enter dates that set deadlines on tasks in the generated project plan appropriately.
  1. Click Save and Finish in the wizard footer to generate your project plan, tailored to your responses in the wizard.
  • You will be asked to save the generated project plan via project default
  • Save As
  • dialog. Save the project to the desired location.
To use or modify a saved project:
  1. Re-open the master product launch project plan, located at .
  • The only addition to the project is in its
  • ProjectGuideSaveBuffer
  • property. In this property, the responses to the interview you just walked through are stored.
  1. Click Edit Interview and then select your interview.
Troubleshooting the Custom Project Guides

Ensure the Project Guide is on and that the main sidepane is displayed.

To turn on the Project Guide:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Options, and then click Interface.
  1. Check the Display Project Guide box.
Notes
  • The Product Launch Interviewer Wizard has six steps. Respond to as many questions as you can as you advance through the wizard. You can go back to a previous step at any time by using the provided links in the wizard footer.
  • There is a third frameset running horizontally across the top of the document window. This customized layout is defined in C:\CustomPG\Interviewer\Product Launch\prodlaunch_mainpage.htm for the Product Launch Project Guide, and it is defined in C:\CustomPG\Interviewer\BizTalk Deployment\btsdeploym_mainpage.htm for the BizTalk Deployment Project Guide.
  • The custom Project Guides contain only one goal area.
  • The master project plan contains 292 tasks.
