With the Access Runtime in your package, you can distribute Access applications to users who do not have the full version of Access installed on their computers.

To launch the Packaging Wizard from the Start menu, select Programs, select Microsoft Office XP Developer, and then Packaging Wizard.

  • Yes, include the Access Runtime
Keep this box selected if you want to include Access Runtime in your application package. Selecting this option makes sure all of the Access Runtime components are included in your package.

Note   Access Runtime can be installed with the following options:

    Installation selection Result
No system files or Internet Explorer 5.1 Access Runtime will not work unless target computer has Microsoft Windows 2000-level system components. See http://windowsupdate.microsoft.comr for more information.
Yes, include System Files Will work on all computers with Windows 98 and later. Installs Internet Explorer 4.1.
Install Internet Explorer 5.1 Includes the setup components for Internet Explorer 5.1 and upgrades the user's computer to make sure applications dependent upon functionality of this version will work correctly
  • Include System Files
Keep this box selected if you want to include the system files in your application package. If you are sure users have the system files required to run your application, clearing this box will significantly reduce the size of the Access Runtime application within the package. The Access Runtime will not work correctly without these system files on the user's computer however.

It is also important to make sure that the language of the system files provided in your application match the language of the operating system on which they are installed. (The system files are provided with the Access Runtime, and are the same as the language of the Access Runtime.) If your user's operating system language is different from the language of the Access Runtime in your application, the user needs to upgrade to Windows 2000-level system components before installing your application.

  • Install Internet Explorer 5.1
Keep this box selected if you want to include Internet Explorer 5.1 in your application package. In addition, you can rely on the version of Internet Explorer that is on your end-user's computer by clearing the box.

  • Which language version of Access Runtime do you want to use?
Select the language you wish to use. The default language of the Microsoft® Office Developer is displayed in the first use. On subsequent uses, the last language selected is displayed.
