SourceSafe Options Dialog Box, Command Line Options Tab (Explorer)

Specifies defaults for some command line commands. These defaults do not affect the behavior of Visual SourceSafe Explorer.

Dialog Box Access

In Visual SourceSafe Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Options, then Command Line Options.

  • Assume project based on working folder
Specifies that Visual SourceSafe should base the current project on your working folder when you run a command line command. Visual SourceSafe uses the working folder for a project and automatically changes to that project before running the command. This allows you to move among your projects without execution of the CP command. If you set this option, it is highly recommended not to give two projects the same working folder, because Visual SourceSafe will not be able to distinguish the project to use for a command.
  • Assume working folder based on current project
Specifies that Visual SourceSafe should assume the working folder from the current project when you run a command line command. Selection of this option changes the default command line behavior, which is to ignore the working folder for the project and put subprojects into their own respective working folders.
  • Browse
Allows you to navigate to an editor file. See Editor option.
  • Check Out Comments
Specifies details about the comments to use when you check out items. Possible options are:

    Option Description

    No comment on Check Out

Does not prompt for a comment when you check out a file or project.

Apply same comment to all files

Prompts for only one comment (up to 64 characters), which is applied to all files in the current checkout operation.

Apply different comment to each file

Prompts you for a separate comment for each file involved in the checkout operation.

  • Comment Prompt
Specifies details about comment prompts. Possible options are:

    Option Description

Prompt for comments on the command line

Displays a comment prompt on the command line prior to the completion of a checkout or check-in operation.

Use editor to prompt for comments

Specifies the use of an editor program for comment prompts.

    Use prompt string

Specifies insertion of a comment prompt into your editor when it opens. The prompt string is not saved with your comment unless you change the string in your editor. If you leave the Use prompt string box blank, no prompt is displayed in your editor. This option is available only when Use editor to prompt for comments is selected.

    Editor

Specifies the path and name for the selected editor program. You can also click Browse to search for an editor. This option is available only when Use editor to prompt for comments is selected.
