Adding XML by using ActiveSync

If the provisioning XML file is in a signed .cab file, a user can download the provisioning XML file from the desktop by using the Remote Application Programming Interface (RAPI) in ActiveSync to push the file to a device. This method is supported only when the provisioning file is contained in a .cab file. The ActiveSync Application Manager does not recognize .cpf files.

The following illustration shows a graphical depiction of how you can put a .cab provisioning file onto a device by using RAPI and ActiveSync.

To add XML to a device by using Remote API (RAPI) and ActiveSync

  1. Establish a USB connection or an ActiveSync connection to the device.

  2. Using Windows File Explorer, transfer the .cab file to the device.

  3. On the device, click the cab icon to initiate the installation.

    After the installation is complete, the .cab file disappears and a message indicates whether the installation was successful or unsuccessful.
